Planned Nature Walks

When I started planning "The Enchanted Kindergarten" I began by researched Charlotte Mason's philosophies.  I KNEW we would not have a formal "Kindergarten" but as we are habit training, I wanted to introduce a routine of living books, etiquette, cooking together, handicrafts, and gentle religious instruction. I have been homeschooling for ten years, the habit of routine will become a useful tool and bring structure to your day.

Charlotte Mason's "List of attainments for a child of 6" is the basis of this guide.  I couldn't find a single guide for each one.

Some of Charlotte Mason's attainments for a child of 6 include:

1. To recite, beautifully, 6 easy poems and hymns
2. to recite, perfectly and beautifully, a parable and a psalm
3. to add and subtract numbers up to 10, with dominoes or counters
4. to read--what and how much, will depend on what we are told of the child
5. to copy in print-hand from a book
6. to know the points of the compass with relation to their own home, where the sun rises and sets, and the way the wind blows

The Enchanted Kindergarten lays out 6 poems to memorize over a 30 week period.  The poetry selections are from the great poet, Robert Louis Stevenson.  Each piece is scheduled to be memorized, then reviewed.

Note: for the year 2019 the children have done EXCELLENT at memorizing!

For attainment number 2...We have a Psalm and many parables to listen to scheduled throughout the year.

For attainments 3.4.5...It is up to the parents to determine if they want to start a reading/copywork program.

For attainment 6...We have scheduled a lesson on learning the points of a compass

As a homeschool mom, you will slowly build a library of living books.  The booklist contains many award-winning classics that you can use over and over again.  These are non-twaddle pieces of literature that introduce your children to new vocabulary and new ideas.  I am SO proud of our literature list.  I am hearing from moms all across the world.  They LOVE their books!   You don't have to get them all at once.  Slowly build your living book library.

NOTE: You need the books in the booklist to go along with "The Enchanted Kindergarten" guide

Main literature text:

Beatrix Potter-The Complete Tales

The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh

Science text:

Christian Liberty Reader-A Living Science read aloud

I am a firm believer in teaching Charlotte Mason students Latin.  The attainments include the learning of French but we have chosen Latin as the language study for the Enchanted Kindergarten.   Charlotte Mason students are students of Science.  The foundation in Latin will serve them in future medical/science careers.

The Enchanted Kindergarten includes 30 Latin flashcards to learn this year.  All words are simple.  Learn a new Latin word every single week.
